DEBT RECOVERY FEES
Debt Recovery Fees
Our Fees
Debt recovery matters can vary greatly and the figures below are indicative only. Our fee depends on the nature, complexity and value of your claim. A more detailed estimate will be provided to you upon meeting with you to take your instructions and reviewing any documentary evidence in support of your case.
The ranges below assume the case is defended and proceeds all the way to trial. We are happy to discuss your case and prepare a tailored quote for you.
In many cases, fees may be calculated on a fixed fee, staged fee, or hourly rate basis. We can offer fixed or staged fees for straightforward steps:
| Stage | Fee range |
|---|---|
| Preparing and sending a letter of claim | £1,000 – £2,000 + VAT |
| Issuing a claim and dealing with the matter up to and including the first hearing (where applicable) | £2,000 – £6,000 + VAT |
| Obtaining judgment (where no hearing is required) | £2,000 – £4,000 + VAT |
| Enforcement action | £1,500 – £3,000 + VAT |
Where a matter is complex or does not follow a straightforward course, we may instead charge on a time-spent basis. Our hourly rates typically range from £210 – £579 + VAT charged at 20%. Legal fees are subject to VAT at 20%.
Disbursements
Disbursements are payments we make to third parties on your behalf and are not included in our legal fees. We handle payment on your behalf for a smoother process.
Court issue fees are payable when a claim is issued and depend on the value of the claim:
| Value of your Claim | Court Issue Fee (No VAT) |
|---|---|
| Up to £300 | £35 |
| £300.01 to £500 | £50 |
| £500.01 to £1,000 | £70 |
| £1,000.01 to £1,500 | £80 |
| £1,500.01 to £3,000 | £115 |
| £3,000.01 to £5,000 | £205 |
| £5,000.01 to £10,000 | £455 |
| £10,000.01 to £200,000 | 5% of the value of the Claim |
| More than £200,000 | £10,000 |
Court issue fees are correct at time of publishing but subject to change. The current schedule is at Civil court fees (EX50) - GOV.UK.
In some cases we may need to instruct a barrister (counsel) to advise on the matter or represent you at a hearing. Counsel's fees can vary depending on complexity, but typically range from £1,250 to £8,000 + VAT.
Other disbursements may include process server fees for personal service of documents (typically £100 – £200 + VAT) or Land Registry Search Fee at £7 per document.
If VAT is applicable to any disbursement, it is usually charged at 20%.
How long will my matter take?
If settlement is reached during pre-claim conciliation, your case is likely to take 4–8 weeks. If your claim proceeds to a hearing, it is likely to take at least 6–9 months.
